“The statutory framework that sets the standards that all Early Years providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. It promotes teaching and learning to ensure children are ready for school and gives children the broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress through school and life”
Within the EYFS there are seven areas of learning, each with age related developmental steps leading to overarching Early Learning Goals that most children will achieve by the end of their reception year at school.
Our commitment to training and continuous professional development of all of our staff is overseen by an in-house Education and Training Director. Stonehouse implement a pro-active approach to training and staff have access to and receive up to date training on changes in legislation, the EYFS curriculum or simply the implementation of new resources within the nursery.

One step at a time
At Stonehouse Childcare, our unique ‘One Step’ programme encompasses the EYFS Curriculum and enables staff to track, assess and record children’s achievements and developmental milestones. Taking into consideration individual characteristics of effective learning and utilising children’s own preferences, staff encourage children to be involved with their own learning experiences within a safe, stimulating learning environment.
At Stonehouse Childcare we operate a ‘thread’ system, these are topic based themes that run throughout the nursery and learning objectives for each thread are based on individual goals from the EYFS. Planning for the ‘thread’ is designed to stimulate the children’s creativity and imagination whilst continuing to develop their thirst for learning, making each day at Stonehouse Childcare a fun, unique and effective learning experience.
The Thread and the ‘One step’ system work hand in hand and have been developed in house by the management team with full staff involvement and assessment by staff, parents and children and found to be an effective tool to monitor children’s progress whilst involving children, informing parents and demonstrating staffs effective practice. This comprehensive learning journey informs your child’s school teacher of all the knowledge, learning and skills your child has achieved in these formative years.
